A Second Independent Candidate for County Board
Arlington voters will potentially have 3 or 4 choices for the Arlington County Board this November. Mike Cantwell has announced his intention to compete as an Independent candidate against the Democratic nominee and another Independent, Audrey Clement. Arlington Republicans have yet to nominate a candidate.
All 3 or 4 candidates will debate via Zoom at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce’s business-themed County Board Candidate Forum on Tues, May 25 at 6PM. The registration form looks like there is a fee, but it is $0.

Mike Cantwell is a 28-year resident of Arlington County. Mike served in the Navy and Navy Reserves from 1987 until 2015 and is currently a federal government employee at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Mike spent several years living in a group house in South Arlington before purchasing his current home in the Yorktown neighborhood with his wife Mary.
Over the last decade and a half, Mike has given his time and energies to many civic and community organizations including: Yorktown Civic Association President, FairVote Virginia Vice President, Holy Trinity Catholic Church Religious Education Instructor, Arlington County Civic Federation Board member, Lee Highway Alliance Board member, Renaming Lee Highway Working Group, 26th Street & Old Dominion Blvd Task Force, Unite America (DC Chapter Leader), Yorktown PTA, Columbus Club Board member, Arlington Public Schools Strategic Planning Committee, and Youth Sports Coach (soccer, baseball, softball, flag football).
Mike is a 1987 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He also has advanced degrees from George Washington University (M.B.A.) and the Naval War College (MA). Mike and Mary have three wonderful children: Patrick (21), Will (19), and Maeve (16).
