Metro Station Sexual Battery Assaults

Second Division Commander, Captain Berke has made us aware of a recent and ongoing crime issue.  From Nov 2 to 5, at least 5 sexual batteries have occurred in our area.  In each case an unknown white or Hispanic male grabbed a woman’s buttocks.  No one was physi-
cally injured.  Several of the assaulted women verbally confronted the attacker and he fled.  Please remember to be aware of personal safety.

If at all possible, do not walk alone at night; stay on higher traffic, well lit routes; be aware of your surroundings; keep your cell phone at the ready in case you need to call 911; and please, call in suspicious activity and people.  The suspect description in these cases varies.  He has been described as a white male and a Hispanic male, stocky build, 20’s – 30’s, 5’7” – 5’10”.

The Arlington County Detective assigned to this "crime trend" is Det. Icalari at (703) 228-4240 or cell # (571) 436-8556.  continue reading »

LV Spaghetti Dinner

Attention! Attention! Lyon Village Families and Friends!

The popular Lyon Village SPAGHETTI DINNER is coming in again in OCTOBER.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 13th. The first seating for this delicious dinner is at 5:00 and the second is at 7:00.

Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children from ages two to ten. Tickets will be on sale at the door or may be purchased ahead of time from Maryann Lilly (527-5089) and Angela Manning (527-7729)

Baked goods for the dessert table are welcome and can be dropped off at the community house at 4:30.

Note: The spaghetti dinner provides a fun opportunity to enjoy a tasty meal with neighbors. It also plays an important part in our ability to maintain the Community House. Renovations of the main hall are planned this year and plans to upgrade the kitchen are expected in the future. A large part of these costs- as well as the monthly maintenance expenses- are covered by rentals of the House. The dinner, however, contributes a significant sum to the budget- so come and have fun!

Arlington Police Investigate Assault in Lyon Village

The Arlington County Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit is investigating the early morning assault of a woman in the Lyon Village neighborhood of north Arlington.  Detectives believe the suspect may have committed several similar assaults over the past two months.

The most recent assault occurred today in the 2600 block of Lee Highway at approximately 1:20 a.m.  A woman who had recently arrived at her apartment heard a knock at the door.  When she opened the door, a man lunged at her with a plastic bag.  The woman was able to block the man’s attack and he fled on foot.  continue reading »

Lyon Village July 4th Parade and Picnic

We need LOTS of Volunteers to make our annual Lyon Village July 4th Parade and Picnic a success

In the past couple of years, we had a July 4th coordinator who got several business associates to work at the event. This year, if we want to continue this great community tradition, we are going to need lots of Lyon Village residents to step up and staff it. We would like to see seasoned volunteers with historic knowledge of how to run this come back and contribute AND we need to see some fresh faces too! Please email janice.gallant@verizon.net to let me know how you can help or call 703-524-6662.

We need volunteers to staff the following activities:

Parade
We need 9 people to help our coordinator, John Carten, set up for the parade and organize the participants

Publicity
We need one volunteer to publicize the event

Decorations
We need 2 or more volunteers to decorate the park shelter

Food and Beverage Purchases
We need 2 volunteers to purchase food, drinks and other items needed for preparing and serving the food

Grill Team
We need 2 volunteers to cook the food in addition to Alan Sobba who has already volunteered (thank you!)

Food/Beverages Set-up and Serving
We need 10 volunteers to help serve the food and beverages and take cash and give change. We need volunteers for hot dog sales, beverage sales, and watermelon sales. We need someone to make signs stating how much each item costs.
